About the Historical & Genealogical Society of Somerset County
The Historical & Genealogical Society of Somerset County at the Somerset Historical Center preserves the rural lifestyles of southwestern Pennsylvania from the earliest farmers to the present day. In less than 200 years, farm life in southwestern Pennsylvania advanced from handwork to machine, from crude subsistence farming to advanced commercial agriculture.

June 18, 2010 ~ 6 pm. to 8 pm. Members-only opening for Woven Wonders: Somerset County Coverlets exhibit
June 19, 2010 ~ Public opening for Woven Wonders: Somerset County Coverlets exhibit. Exhibit will remain open until October 12, 2010.
July 21 & 22, 2010 ~ We will host with the PA State Archives.
The Historical Society houses a significant collection of Civil War era collections and research. Many of the items will be on display for the 2011 exhibit, Somerset County in the Civil War. The exhibit will feature collections, stories and family histories from 1861 to 1865. Collections include uniforms, women’s clothing and textiles, images of soldiers, diaries, household items and many more.
