Civil War weaponry varied depending on the rank and type of military unit soldiers belonged to.
Sized for convenience, infantry weapons allowed soldiers battling on foot to attack enemy forces in a variety of fashions and from various distances.
Though capable of delivering a fatal blow when necessary, officers’ side-arms were primarily used to denote authority or rank.
Precision firearms capable of continuous, rapid fire provided a technological advantage for the cavalry, which were traditionally sword-wielding soldiers on horseback.
This destructive firearms unit sprayed copious amounts of shrapnel ammunition and could decimate large groups of soldiers remotely.
